Educational video clips about neuroscience and brain diseases

Get a broader perspective and learn more about neuroscience research and diseases in our videos.

Educational video clips are created as a service to provide the general public and lay audience with knowledge about various brain, neurological and psychiatric disorders, as well as neuroscience research and methods, and to inform about the work of ERA-NET NEURON.

Our videos are edited so that anyone can understand them without deep knowledge of neuroscience. With the videos you can learn more about brain diseases such as schizophrenia, epilepsy, depression, Altheimer, Parkinson’s disease or strokes.

Our goal as a team is to improve the quality of life of children with neurodevelopmental problems and their families. We do this by studying the fetal brain through MRI imaging to detect and quantify developmental abnormalities, helping to design tools to prevent long-lasting consequences.

Working in the MULTI-FACT project has been a great experience – working alongside an interdisciplinary, multinational team of great researchers.

With this video, we have tried to show the impact of our research in an intelligible way.

Epilepsy is a group of neurological disorders characterized by epileptic seizures. The cause of most cases of epilepsy is unknown. Some cases occur as the result of brain injury, stroke, brain tumors, infections of the brain, and birth defects through a process known as epileptogenesis. This film is provided as a service to the public and was produced by the Chief Scientist Office of the Israeli Ministry of Health in the framework of ERA-NET NEURON, a pan-European network of funding organizations.

Video clip on Brain Imaging

Imaging technologies of the brain has become to be the state-of-the-art means of detecting normal and irregular functioning of the human brain and leading means detecting brain injuries and traumas. A group of experts in brain imaging explain the various technologies available today and assure that these advanced technologies are used for diagnosis of pathologies and research purposes and cannot, as of today, affect human behaviors or change our mental capabilities. This film is provided as a service to the public and was produced by the Chief Scientist Office of the Israeli Ministry of Health in the framework of ERA-NET NEURON, a pan-European network of funding organizations.

Video clip on Schizophrenia

Mental disorders like Schizophrenia are among the most stressful brain-related disorders. This is mainly due to their early onset and long-term disabling courses. A 15 minute film, interviewing a researcher and a clinician who are experts in the field explain the disease and its treatment. Two rehabilitated schizophrenia patients show the personal sides and the disease. This film was produced by the Chief Scientist Office of the Israeli Ministry of Health in the framework of ERA-NET NEURON, a pan-European organisation which receives funding under the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Union. It is provided as a service to the public.

What is brain stroke? What are its symptoms? What is the biology behind it? How can it be treated? A 10 minute film, interviewing some of Israel’s best known researchers and clinicians in the field explain the disease and its treatment. This film was produced by the Chief Scientist Office of the Israeli Ministry of Health in the framework of ERA-NET NEURON, a pan-European organisation which receives funding under the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Union. Cannabis in the Brain. Research on the Effects of Marijoana and Hashish

© CSO-MOH (Israel)

Developments in the future medical applications of cannabis research are described by Prof. Raphael Mechoulam. Prof. Mechoulam and colleagues, from The School of Pharmacy of The Faculty of Medicine at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, discovered in 1964 the main active compound in cannabis, known as THC. The Cannabis sativa plant has been used as a herbal therapy, most notably as an antiemetic (to treat vomiting and nausea). Other applications may include arthritis, glaucoma, multiple sklerosis, depression, movement disorders and chronic pain. So far, the medical use of cannabis is legal only in a limited number of territories, its usage generally requires a prescription and distribution is usually done within a framework defined by local laws.

Parkinson’s Disease Research and Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery

Deep Brain Stimulation Treatment to cure Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders is described by Prof. Hagai Bergman, a physician-scientist from the Dept. of Physiology at the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School and Dr. Zvi Israel, a neurosurgeon from the Dept. of Neurosurgery at Hadassah University Hospital.

Parkinson’s disease or PD is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the patients’ motor skills and speech, as well as other functions. Although the cause and molecular pathophysiological basis of this disease have been and still are thoroughly investigated, there is presently no cure for PD, but medications or surgery can provide relief from the symptoms. One promising therapeutic option is stimulation of parts of the brain with implanted electrodes, Deep Brain Stimulation.
